At the Winning Post we pride ourselves on a friendly
welcoming atmosphere and have a selection of
characterful areas where you can choose to relax.

On entering the pub, you are welcomed by the Main Bar which forms the heart of the pub.

Carrying on through the pub is our Gallery which is coupled with our own art space displaying work from a visiting local artist, a warm friendly space for intimate dining or small gatherings.

Our Lounge is our largest space giving you plenty of room to relax with friends and family and with a bit of rejigging is available to hire for Parties, Weddings, Wakes & Memorials, Private Cinema Parties or Social Celebrations.

Our passion within our menus lies in finding fresh, quality ingredients, all locally sourced and then we prepare, cook and present them in a modern Pub fayre.

For our outdoor spaces we have a Front Beer Garden where you can watch the world go by or there is our Sunken Rear Garden, more of an intimate space.

We have ample free car & bike parking facilities, disabled access and of course, dog friendly.

RIVER OUSE WALK

Approx. 4km

This walk loops around from Cliffords Tower in the centre of York, down the River Ouse to the Winning Post:

Walk under Skeldergate bridge and walk along the River Ouse (River on your right, St George’s Field Car Park on your left).

You will arrive at a blue bridge which crosses over the River Foss as it joins with the River Ouse. Carry along the river all the way down to Millennium Foot bridge.

Cross over the foot bridge and carry straight ahead down Butcher’s Terrace to the crossroads with Bishopthorpe Road. Turn right along Bishopthorpe Road and you will see the Winning Post on the left hand side in approx 100m.

On leaving the Winning Post you can carry on up along Bishopthorpe Road taking the second turning on the right into Richardson Street, walk down Richardson Street and into Rowntrees Park towards the river. Turn left out of the park walking along the River Ouse which should now be on our right hand side.

This will bring you bak to Skeldergate bridge which you can walk under, to cross over, towards Clifford’s Tower and city centre.

YORK TO SELBY VIA THE PLANETS

Approx 25km

bike ride from the winning post to selby via cycle route 65 taking in all the planets on the way

You can get onto the National Cycle Route 65 via the Millennium Bridge on the River Ouse or by York Race Course. This route is all via cycle paths so is a good one to take the kids along too. As the course is one straight line you can choose at which point you can turn back for that well deserved drink and meal.

YORK CYCLE CAMPAIGN

YORK STAINED GLASS TRAIL

This is a fun family cycle trail, devised for York Cycle Campaign in May 2020. It is 6 miles long, starts and finishes at the Minster, and takes you past 18 examples of stained glass art in shops and houses in and around the centre.

Members of York Cycle Campaign have compiled a cycle trail that celebrates York’s stained glass – and not necessarily the obvious candidates. Featuring a butcher’s and baker’s but no candlestick maker’s (yet), this 9 km (6 mile) takes you around the city and its immediate vicinity, and challenges your powers of observation and as you will see includes the stain glass Bay Windows at the Winning Post, York
